BOSTON (AP) — Officials are praising a group of bystanders they say helped save the life of a man who collapsed during a Thanksgiving road race in Boston.
Deputy Superintendent of Boston Emergency Medical Services Susan Schiller says the group of good Samaritans performed CPR on a man who went into cardiac arrest during the annual Franklin Park Turkey Trot 5K road race.
Boston EMS crews who were nearby responded and used an automatic external defibrillator on the man. Schiller says the man was conscious during the ride to the hospital. The man's condition was not immediately clear Friday.
Schiller tells WBZ-TV that the bystanders "absolutely helped to save a life" by buying the man some time before the emergency responders could arrive.
