COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Matt Mooney scored 11 points and Justin Hammonds added 10 as Air Force stretched a single-digit first-half lead and beat cold-shooting Grambling State 59-34 on Wednesday night.
Hammonds led with nine rebounds as the Falcons (4-3) out-rebounded Grambling 47-28. Mooney shot 4 of 7 from the floor, while Air Force shot 37.7 percent overall.
Grambling State (1-5) only made one field goal in the first 13 minutes of the first half, entering the break trailing 23-16. The Tigers saw a slow start in the second half also — Mark Gary made the first basket after the break, but the team missed their next three attempts.
Gary and A'Torri Shine led the Tigers with nine points apiece. Grambling State shot 13 of 45 (28.9 percent) from the floor, and made just 1 of 8 3-point attempts.
