SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials with the Tour of Utah bicycle race say two employees were injured when a wind gust toppled a metal truss holding the finish line banner.
Tour of Utah spokesman Frank Zang said the circuit race in downtown Salt Lake City had wrapped up and an awards ceremony was taking place nearby when the truss fell at about 7 p.m. Friday.
Zang says one employee who was hit was taken to the University of Utah hospital and was later declared to be in good condition. A second employee who was hit was checked out by medical workers at the scene and wasn't taken to the hospital.
The ceremony was cut short by the incident, which was followed by a downpour.
Friday's race marked the fifth stage of the seven-part tour.
