CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — BYU unveiled their new "Go hard, Go fast" offense and the Twitter world was ready for it, but BYU's offense wasn't.
The game was slow and boring to start. The first quarter ended with no offense in a 0-0 tie.
"Two bad throws by hill. Two drops. A penalty and bad O-line play," [Mark Mueller tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/Mmueller88/status/373900477986918401 >) "Yup welcome to the first week of an up tempo offense."
That summed up the first quarter. Then it got exciting during the quarter break. A lightning warning forced the stadium to be emptied and then wait, for a long time.
"Hey weather, #gofastgohard. Thanks. #BYUatUVA," Scott Lee tweeted.

The delay started at about 2 p.m., and the lightning took its sweet time to move on.
"Received word that the game will resume at 6:20 ET.," [Jeremiah Jensen tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/JJSportsBeat/status/373930101735292928 >) "It's likely that halftime will be cut short. #BYUatUVA"
Over two hours of sitting around didn't help the offense find their legs.
"Punters are punting hard and punting fast," [Scott Garrard tweeted. ](<https://twitter.com/ScottyG1280/status/373899994308153344 >)
Or there could be the new motto for the back of BYU's jerseys.
"Tradition. Spirit. Honor. Punt. #BYUatUVA #BYU," [Don Eisenbarth tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/bigdondoo/status/373937120844333056 >)
Eventually the game did pick up and there were some points put on the board. Jamaal Williams was grinding out yardage, and slowly, but points just weren't coming. Then a huge mistake when Taysom Hill mishandled a snap and the Cavaliers got easy points.
"Flashbacks of Heaps vs Utah. Embarrassing. #BYUatUVA," [Dave Johnson tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/DaveJohnsonY/status/373957005049749504 >)
It was so bad there seemed to be not hope.
"Might as well be down by 100 #BYUfootball #BYUatUVA," [Scott Livingston tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/Kustom51/status/373957204216279040 >)
A touchdown drive that went 92 yards helped perk up BYU fans' spirit. Then a recovered fumble and a field goal put the lead up to four points. The offense suddenly looked in shape and rearing for more.
"So we've figured out #GoFastGoHard wears out the opposing defense after about 55 min of game play #BYUatUVA ," [Ben Buchanan tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/bbsportsmed/status/373966695682953216 >)
The team was moving, the defense was holding strong. Williams looked like he was the best player on the field.
"And then that happens... #BYUatUVA #Dumb" [McKoye Mecham tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/RealMcKoye/status/373968985282207744 >)
The "that" in Mecham's tweet was a ball that went through Williams' hands and to a waiting Virginia defensive back. The Cavaliers returned it to the 13 yard line and the Cavaliers scored one play later. Fans weren't pleased.
"SERIOUSLY?! Seriously?!!!! The one thing you guys COULD NOTdo! #BYUatUVA" [tweeted Kristalyn.](<https://twitter.com/PaleGingerette/status/373968841396584448 >)
That was all it took. BYU ended up losing 19-16 in one of the longest, most interesting games anyone will ever see, or not see depending on their cable provider.
"The losers today? Sadly #byu, and @DIRECTV. Between the delay and @ESPN3, we missed almost the whole #BYUatUVA game! @DIRECTVService #fail," [Jason Longhurst tweeted.](<https://twitter.com/jasonmlonghurst/status/373975137059483648 >)
