STANSBURY PARK – The Stansbury Stallions approached Wednesday’s matchup with Region 11 rivals, the Grantsville Cowboys, with a three-game losing streak.

That losing streak is over.

The Stallions beat Grantsville by way of mercy rule, 9-1. The Stallions had several chances to score early, but couldn’t convert. However, that didn't stop them from gaining momentum. Sharp scored off of a great pass from Jara Eshete to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Gallegos scored his first goal to make it 2-0 thanks to a solid corner kick by Sharp.

Josh Gallegos recorded a hat trick and Zach Sharp and Jonny Calderon each scored twice. Braden Bouwhuis scored once and Darius Johnson put the game away with a goal of his own. Joseph Lopez scored the one and only goal for the Cowboys.

After a save by Stansbury goalkeeper, Kyler Clements, Grantsville defender Joseph Lopez knocked the ball free from Clements’ hands, scoring and bringing the numbers up to 2-1.

That was Grantsville's only goal.

Calderon scored just before halftime to give the Stallions a 3-1 lead heading into the half.

Gallegos scored almost immediately after the second half started to make it 4-1, and completed the hat trick just a few minutes later increasing the lead to 5-1.

Later, Calderon followed his own miss and scored to extend the lead to 6-1. Sharp scored his second goal of the game just moments later to make it 7-1, and later assisted on a header by Bouwhuis to make it 8-1.

Johnson scored his goal off another assist from Sharp and the game was over.

The Stallions move to 3-4 with the win and will be back in action Friday against Tooele. The Cowboys drop to 1-8 on the year and will be back on the field against Tooele next Tuesday.
