UCLA's dynasty under coach John Wooden began in the early 1960s with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at center. It kept right on going with Bill Walton. UCLA set the all-time NCAA record an 88-game winning streak and went wire-to-wire at No. 1 in consecutive seasons as part of a streak of 46 straight weeks at the top, still the all-time record. The Bruins also hold the record for being ranked at 221 straight weeks, a streak that encompassed the entire 1970s. The Bruins were the clearly the leader in points for the 1970s in a compilation of polls from the decade by The Associated Press.
