Marine veteran and Taylorsville, Utah police detective Shawn McKinnon was on the brink of ending his own life—until his partner reached out to the outdoor community for help. In a remarkable act of support, sportsmen and organizations came together to surprise Shawn with a once-in-a-lifetime bull elk hunt in Utah’s La Sal Mountains. With gear donated by Scheels, Vortex Optics, Barnes Bullets, and King's Camo, and a tag provided by Hunts for the Brave and the Utah Conservation Officer's Association, Shawn embarked on a healing journey through outdoor therapy. He tagged out on a beautiful bull elk—and more importantly, rediscovered hope, purpose, and the strength of community. This emotional story is a testament to the power of nature, brotherhood, and the outdoors to save lives.
