MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin Health and SwedishAmerican Health System, of Rockford, Ill., have plans to merge.
UW Hospital and Clinics CEO Donna Katen-Bahemsky says the Madison-based health group has been in talks with SwedishAmerican for about a year. She says it should take about 90 days to move from a letter of intent to a definitive merger agreement, when SwedishAmerican will become a part of UW Health.
The Beloit Daily News (http://bit.ly/1hSk1lV ) says regulatory approval is needed for the merger, including review by the Federal Trade Commission.
SwedishAmerican is a not-for-profit health system which operates two hospitals, 30 clinics, a home health care agency and a foundation. UW Health is an academic health center anchored by the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, in partnership with UW Hospital and Clinics.
