MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey high school teacher who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student has pleaded not guilty to official misconduct.
Nicole McDonough, a 32-year-old Mount Olive Township resident who taught at West Morris Mendham High School, entered her plea Wednesday during a court hearing.
Morris County prosecutors say the charge stems from an investigation that began when authorities learned that McDonough allegedly had a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student. They say the relationship occurred between May and June of this year.
McDonough's attorney, Timothy Smith, told NJ.com (http://bit.ly/1zU9FH4) that McDonough did not have sex with the student and plans to fight the charge. She was suspended from her job following her arrest last month.
McDonough doesn't face sex charges since the student is legally an adult.
