DALLAS (AP) — National officials with the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity say they've shut down their chapter at Southern Methodist University for at least five years due to health and safety issues.
Tad Lichtenauer, a spokesman for the national organization, told The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/21EsL29 ) on Monday that Lambda Chi's national headquarters in Indiana reviewed the SMU chapter six months ago and had ongoing concerns.
The national fraternity suspended the SMU chapter citing "multiple operational and new member incidents that violated the oaths and rules of our fraternity."
Lichtenauer declined to give specifics but spoke of health and safety and the need for new members to have positive experiences. He says the chapter had about 100 members.
SMU spokeswoman Kim Cobb says the university received no reports of illegal activity or misconduct.
