LAS VEGAS (AP) — The governors of Nevada and Arizona are unveiling a sign marking the proposed Interstate 11.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval met up at the Hoover Dam for the ceremony Friday afternoon.
The two states are linked by the highway U.S. 93, but the governors and business leaders dream of laying down a full-fledged interstate between Las Vegas and Phoenix. They hope to eventually extend it south to Mexico and north to Canada.
Congress officially gave the corridor the title of Interstate 11 in 2012, but the project is still years and billions of dollars away from completion.
Transportation officials are working together on a $2.5 million study to explore potential routes for the road and estimate its cost.
