RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada wildlife officials have euthanized a mountain lion that was in poor health and acting strangely.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife says the big cat was killed Saturday after it had been seen stalking pets in a Sun Valley neighborhood.
NDOW veterinarian Peregrine Wolff says a necropsy of the animal showed two broken front legs with a severe infection in the left one. A report says officials believe the cat couldn't walk normally or catch anything other than domestic species.
Wildlife officials estimated that the mountain lion was a three or four year old male.
NDOW spokesman Chris Healy says the agency prefers to release mountain lions back into the wild if they are healthy enough.
