MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison says the percentage of undergraduates who use student loans and the amount they're borrowing is up slightly from last year.
The average student loan for those with an undergraduate degree from UW-Madison rose about $1,000 in 2014 to approximately $27,700. That's slightly below the 2013 national average of $28,400.
The UW-Madison Office of Student Financial Aid says about 48 percent of undergrads get their degrees without federal or private student loans. Nationally, that figure is 30 percent.
Tuition at UW-Madison has remained the same for the last two years.
The financial aid report includes only federal and private student loans, not other borrowing, such as credit card debt.
