AMERICAN FORK CANYON, Utah (AP) — A ski resort near Salt Lake City wants to trade land with the federal government so it can expand its trail system.
The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1N6yacM) the deal would swap 1,400 acres of land owned by the Snowbird ski resort with 416 acres of National Forest property in Mineral Basin, about five miles south of the resort in American Fork Canyon.
Snowbird CEO and President Bob Bonar was invited to present the plan to local activists Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by lawmakers and representatives from local recreation groups.
People expressed concerns about how the swap would impact the surrounding environment.
Bonar said the plan needs to be approved by a series of groups, go through public and congressional hearings and comply with the National Environmental Protection Act.
