IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa City Community School Board has approved the school placement of a student who is required to register as a sex offender.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says (http://icp-c.com/1mRLbsv ) the board took a public 5-0 vote Tuesday night after a closed session.

Superintendent Stephen Murley has said Iowa law requires the district to offer education to all school-age children, including sex offenders who must register with law enforcement authorities. The district is barred from releasing information about the child.

Murley says the plan approved Tuesday includes monitoring before the student arrives at school, during the school day and after the school day. He says more than one adult will be involved in monitoring the student.
