LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fiery crash that killed one person and closed Interstate 15 near Mesquite.
Trooper Loy Hixson says it happened after a car headed north crossed the center line and collided with a semitractor-trailer going south Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say that the car burst into flames after it hit the semi. The car driver died at the scene. Police didn't immediately release identifying information about the car driver or the condition of the person driving the semi.
The crash closed the Interstate in both directions for about an hour as emergency crews responded to the scene and cleaned up debris.
Mesquite is located about 80 miles from Las Vegas, near the borders with Utah and Arizona.
