LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Construction on a new honors residence hall at the University of Kentucky is set to begin.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports (http://bit.ly/1Q0d67O ) that Kentucky native Thomas Lewis donated $23 million last fall to establish Lewis Hall — the new dormitory for honors students — and to pay for programming and faculty. The newspaper says it's the largest gift in the university's history.
The $37 million dorm will be built by Education Realty Trust, the private developer building several other dorms at the university. The hall will be five stories tall and have 346 beds.
The number of honors students at UK has grown from 750 to 1,400 in the last five years.
