TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State University says it will use a $21.9 million grant to support 150 students from the African nation of Ghana as they complete their undergraduate degrees and obtain an accelerated master's degree.
The university announced the award by a Toronto-based nonprofit, the MasterCard Foundation, on Tuesday.
According to the university, the project is intended to provide the students with skills and knowledge to lead and strengthen their country when the students return to their homeland.
The MasterCard Foundation's website says the organization has a focus on reducing poverty in Africa and was created by MasterCard as an independent entity when MasterCard became a public company in 2006.
