SEATTLE (AP) — Mount Rainier National Park is gearing up to return to full operations following the federal government's partial shutdown.
The Seattle Times reports that significant snow removal will take many days to restore the two-way vehicle access to the Paradise area.
The road was closed during the shutdown, which ended after the enactment Friday of a short-term funding deal.
The Longmire Museum reopened Sunday and drivers have had access to the area since Jan. 13 when the Nisqually entrance was reopened.
Officials say other areas, including Mowich and the Carbon River, also are open. But they add those areas typically are not maintained during winter, and access depends on snow conditions.
