WINDY CITY — When I was a kid, we'd play a fun game whenever it got super windy in our neighborhood. My brothers and I would grab sheets from the linen closet and take them out to the trampoline. We'd then tie two corners of a sheet to our ankles, while holding the other two corners in our hands.
As the wind hit our backyard in all its fury, we'd jump as high as we could and then kick out our heels and spread our arms. The sheet would catch the wind and open in front of us like a sail, and we'd be hurled through the air.
Yes, this game resulted in numerous injuries. But it provided a valuable bonding experience with my brothers. Once you've watched a loved one fly across the yard and smack into the fence, you inevitably feel a deeper connection with them.
Why would I bring up the incredibly dumb and dangerous game we used to play in the wind? Because I was reminded of it when I watched this video:
As a pleasant breeze hummed through the crisp air, it probably seemed like a smart idea to put this laundry rack out on the street. Unfortunately, the breeze morphed into something more powerful. And, based on my own personal experience, that laundry rack probably didn't stop rolling away until it hit a fence somewhere far in the distance.
