Eggs have long been considered a convenient source of protein, but emerging research suggests they may also play a role in brain health.
A recent study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that people who regularly ate eggs had a lower incidence of Alzheimer's dementia over time compared to those who rarely ate them.

Researchers tracked the eating habits and cognitive health of nearly 40,000 adults over an average of 15 years. The study found that participants who ate eggs more regularly were less likely to develop Alzheimer's dementia compared to those who rarely consumed eggs.
According to the study:
- People who did not eat eggs had a 22% higher risk of Alzheimer's dementia.
- Eating eggs one to three times per month was associated with a 17 % lower risk of Alzheimer's dementia.
- Participants who ate eggs five or more times per week showed the lowest risk association in the study (27% lower.)
"Eggs have been a cornerstone of healthy diets for generations, and this research backs that up," said Jon Shurtliff, director of sales at Oakdell Egg Farms. "We're encouraged to see more research highlighting the role simple, nutrient-rich foods can play in healthy aging."

A single egg provides several nutrients linked in brain health:
- 6 grams of protein.
- About 25% of the recommended daily value of choline, shown to improve memory and cognition.
- Vitamin B12 and other nutrients that support nerve and brain health.
- DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid associated with brain function.
Health experts continue to emphasize that no single food determines long-term health outcomes. Instead, overall eating patterns, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats appear to have the greatest impact on healthy aging.
The American Heart Association says healthy adults can include up to two eggs per day as part of a heart-healthy diet.
