TALLAHASSEE (AP) -- The NCAA will allow Florida State to use its Seminoles nickname in post-season play. That removes the school from a list of schools who's Native American nicknames were restricted by the NCAA in a controversial move earlier this month.
Florida State officials threatened to sue.
The NCAA says allowing Florida State to use the Seminoles nickname recognizes the relationship the school has enjoyed with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The tribe supports the use of the nickname and helps the university with its celebration of the Seminole culture.
