For the past few months we've been following some San Francisco bay area people trying to get the most out of their workout using a heart rate monitor.

It's part of a 100 day program.. The group is now at the halfway point.

"OK ASTRID, WHAT'S YOUR PULSE"

It's been 50 days of jogging..working out in the gym. And going for bike rides.

At the halfway point in their 100 day heart rate monitor workout.. many in the group are already seeing changes.

Sharon Bietzer, Polar 100 Participant: "I FEEL GREAT, I'VE LOST SOME WEIGHT, I CAN REALLY NOTICE IN MY BODYTHAT I'VE LOST THE FAT, ALLAN GONZALEZ "MORE ENERGY AFTER THE END OF A WORKOUT, SO I CAN DEFINITELY TELL THAT MY ENDURANCE HAS GONE UP."

Sylvia Malniko, Polar 100 Participant: "I FEEL MORE CONFIDENT IN MY BODY AND ALSO IN MYSELF."

The group says using a monitor helps them keep track of how hard they are working out.. whether they need to push harder.. or even do less.

Bert Sawicki, Polar 100 Participant: "IT HAS JUST HELPED ME NOT OVERTRAIN"

While some people found they were not losing as much weight as they hoped.. team coach and fitness expert Eric Harr says don't give up.

Eric Harr, Fitness Expert: "IF YOU'RE PLATEAUING, HANG IN THERE, IT WILL USUALLY PAY DIVIDENDS. IF YOU CAN JUST STICK WITH THE PROGRAM A LITTLE BIT LONGER YOU'LL START TO SEE THE EFFECTS OF IT. PLATEAUS GENERALLY MEAN THAT YOU'RE DOING THE RIGHT THING BUT YOUR BODY HASN'T RESPONDED YET."

Harr says the key is finding a routine you can stick with.. that means not being afraid to take a day off..or even indulge yourself.

Eric Harr, Fitness Expert: "YOU HAVE TO STRESS THE BODY AND THEN YOU HAVE TO REST THE BODY. SO I'LL GO FOR A NICE LONG BIKE RIDE AND THEN I'LL HAVE MY BEN & JERRY'S AND PUT MY FEET UP ON THE COUCH.

And don't be afraid to try different things

ASTRID :"WE WENT BOOGY BOARDING THE OTHER DAY, AND MY CORE AND MY ABS WERE SORE AFTERWARDS BUT IT WAS SUCH A FUN DAY."

The more fun you have working out.. the more likely you are to stick with it.
