As I hoped, BYU holds more or less steady in the new college basketball Top 25 polls. The Cougars remain at 12th in the AP poll, and drop from 10th to 12th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' survey.

New Mexico is up from 23rd/NR to 15th and 23rd after the Lobos' win over BYU.

Gonzaga drops from 13th/8th to 17th/13th after the Zags' loss at San Francisco.

UNLV is receiving top 25 consideration and is tied for 33rd in both polls. Huge game for BYU Saturday in Las Vegas.

So, by the polls and practically every other measure, the title of "Best in the West" may reside in Provo for the time being.

A final word on "the fight," from the MWC:

"As Coach Boylen stated... per NCAA rules, an ejection for fighting is an automatic one-game suspension. The MWC considers the matter closed and will have no further comment."

The MWC has also confirmed for me that Henderson's flagrant foul was officially recorded as a "fight." A player with a fight on his record is suspended for the remainder of the season (including tournament play) if he participates in a second fight.

The league office has named Jimmer Fredette as the MWC Player of the Week for a fourth time this season.

Fredette averaged 31.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists last week. He shot 43% (19/44) from the field, 73% (8/11) from the arc, and 89% (17/19) from the stripe.
