The year 2040 – it seems a long way off, yet, anyone who has been around since at least 1970 knows how quickly 35 years can pass by.

So what will life be like along the Wasatch Front in 2040? Where will people live and work, and how will they get around?

Demographers tell us the region’s population by 2020 will be the same as San Diego is today and by 2050, what Philadelphia is today. Is it possible to plan now to avoid severe traffic congestion, increased air pollution and other challenges that would affect Utahns quality of life?

KSL thinks it is possible. And it is why we support the ongoing efforts of the Wasatch Front Regional Council, the Mountainland Association of Governments and Envision Utah to facilitate the planning process.

A series of public open houses dubbed Wasatch Choices 2040 is currently underway to generate widespread input on four alternative scenarios designed to guide the development of growth strategies for the future. Attend one of the open houses if you can. At the very least, go to their website at www.envisionutah.org to review the scenarios and provide your perspective by answering an online questionnaire.

2040 is just around the corner and the decisions made now will determine our collective quality of life as the future soon becomes the now.
