KSL has received dozens of responses to a recent editorial in which we spoke plainly about guns. KSL believes concealed weapons don’t belong on college campuses.
The following views are representative of the replies we received.
From Nick Pond of Tooele:
“Carrying a weapon that no one else can see has no impact on the learning process for others, and most certainly enhances the process for those who would be worried about their own safety.”
From Brian E. Kamerath of Taylorsville:
“College campuses around the country are notorious for rapes, assaults and thefts. And while no physical possession is worth another’s life, we should not limit a woman’s right to protect herself from any violent crime with deadly force.”
From John Wangsgaard of Logan:
“KSL’s editorial regarding State Senator Waddoups’ wish that Utah’s law be equally applied deserves neither the adjectives ‘narrow-mindedness’ or ‘concealed carry fanatics.’ This adds nothing constructive to the debate.”
Sheldon L. Anderson of West Valley City also objected to the use of the word “fanatics.”
“This pejorative really is unwarranted and offensive. The people who have these permits are, as a group, much more law-abiding that the general population.”
