What a relief!
The capture of Saddam Hussein is a relief for the people of Iraq. No longer need they harbor lingering fears the despot will somehow return to power. The vivid images of the bedraggled and disheveled tyrant being examined by a physician after his capture send a powerful message that Saddam, without the trappings of authority, is as weak and human as anyone.
Saddam’s capture is a relief for the men and women of the armed forces who’ve dedicated untold time and energy to finding him. That he would be found cowering in a so-called “spider hole” not far from one of his opulent palaces speaks volumes about his fall from power.
Saddam’s capture is a relief for President George W. Bush and the members of his administration. Their relief would be compounded if the former dictator would provide reliable information about the whereabouts of any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
And of course, the capture of Saddam is a relief for the American people who are paying a heavy price in terms of American lives as well as taxpayer dollars for rebuilding a nation. It brings renewed hope a degree of stability can be brought to the world’s most unstable region.
KSL, this day, joins in the worldwide chorus of relief at the capture of Saddam Hussein!
