Traditionally, this day after Thanksgiving signals the beginning of the holiday shopping season. KSL shares the hope of retail merchants everywhere that it will be a stellar time for commerce.
Beyond all of the selling and buying, though, we hope it also becomes a generous season of giving.
The need for philanthropy, at all levels, is as great as ever!
In these difficult economic times, more people seem to be slipping into poverty, and from near homelessness to actually finding themselves without adequate shelter. Those who know tell us families with children are especially vulnerable and are surfacing in shelters with increasing frequency.
It’s why KSL encourages you this holiday season to open your hearts and your pocketbooks to any number of worthy charities that help the needy.
We think of the bell ringers of the Salvation Army; various “Sub for Santa” efforts; our own KSL Quarters for Christmas; the United Way; donations through religious organizations; direct contributions to established programs!
The list goes on. In Utah, we’re blessed with many dedicated altruistic organizations. To succeed, though, they must rely on community involvement.
So, along with everything else this season signifies, we say, let it be a time for generously reaching out to those in need. Indeed, let it be a season of giving.
