Isn’t it interesting the maelstrom that constantly surrounds Envirocare?

Of course, the very nature of the business generates controversy. It’s a repository for radioactive waste and the firm would like to accept more and hotter waste. The debate, naturally, will be intense.

Yet, with Envirocare, controversy surrounds the firm’s owner as much as the waste products he receives and stores.

Khosrow Semnani’s guilty plea in 1998 to a misdemeanor tax charge and the subsequent conviction of a former state regulator he dealt with, amidst allegations of extortion, may be old news, but it remains, if not on Semnani’s personal resume, at least in the public mind. More recently, a bitter lawsuit filed by his former right-hand man with its allegations of ongoing shenanigans doesn’t help.

The charismatic Envirocare owner is often recognized for his philanthropic generosity, but questions about his motives always seem to dog him. Is his giving genuine altruism or is he merely buying influence?

Now, comes the latest chapter in the ongoing saga. Understandably, there’s something inherently suspicious when a freshman congressman, Rob Bishop, vigorously champions the controversial cause of a company he recently represented as a paid lobbyist.

In KSL’s view, the constant controversy surrounding Envirocare isn’t about the actual facts as much as public perceptions about the firm’s business practices. The issue is one of public confidence - something Envirocare has yet to earn.
