Tax day, April 15, is approaching!
Few Americans actually relish the thought of forking over hard-earned cash to Uncle Sam. But, out of a sense of obligation and duty, if not fear of prosecution, most comply.
Unfortunately, there are those who don’t. Some go so far as to pursue any number of cockamamie schemes to selfishly keep from paying the proverbial piper.
For anyone contemplating not paying their income taxes, it is important to remember that illegal tax protest schemes in a variety of forms have been around for decades. And regardless of the arguments used by illegal tax protestors, the courts have consistently rejected them. Furthermore, the tax protestors themselves stand in jeopardy of prosecution.
Utah, unfortunately, seems to have its share of misguided tax cheats. And every year about this time, certain gullible citizens fall prey to the wiles of tax protest advocates.
KSL reminds Utahns that the payment of income tax is not optional. Indeed, it is a civic responsibility. For those who object, we encourage them to work within the political system to bring about taxation reform. Meantime, don’t become caught up in the beguiling, yet false assertions of the tax protest movement.
