LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Southern California coach Pete Carroll says linebacker Uona Kaveinga is transferring to BYU.

Kaveinga played sparingly as a sophomore this season for the Trojans (9-4), making two tackles on special teams and as a backup middle linebacker.

Carroll announced USC had released Kaveinga from his scholarship Wednesday.

Kaveinga chose USC over BYU in 2008 when he was being recruited out of Lawndale Leuzinger High in Lawndale, California.
