Press Release BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Turnovers plagued the Utah Valley University women's basketball team in a 78-36 loss at Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday night.
The Wolverines (3-8) turned it over a school-record 43 times, leading to 49 Roadrunner points. CSUB (3-4) set a school record with 33 steals, 11 coming from Katie Williams, both records for a UVU opponent.
Jenna Johnson scored a career-high 14 to lead Utah Valley while Julie Smith had 10 points and seven rebounds. Blake Reynolds finished with team-high eight boards for the Wolverines.
Both Williams, with 11 points, and Tamiko Davis, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, recorded double-doubles for Bakersfield. Phynique Allen had a game-high 21 points to go along with eight steals.
CSU Bakersfield jumped out to a 45-22 by halftime and then scored the first 14 points of the second half before Smith hit a runner for UVU over seven minutes in.
The 'Runners then scored 11 straight points to stretch the run to 25-2 to begin the half. CSUB led by as much as 46 points in the second half.
The Wolverines, who have lost three straight, will now travel to Cedar City for a 7 p.m. tip on Saturday at Southern Utah. Utah Valley's last win came over SUU at the Montana State Thanksgiving tournament on Nov. 28.
