Another year, another Timpview appearance in the 4A state championship game. This program from Provo is enjoying of the most impressive runs since the Skyline teams of the 90's. This year's team has recovered from a 1-2 start to once again dominate the 4A ranks in the state of Utah. They have done it without star defensive end and BYU recruit Bronson Kaufusi who suffered a season ending knee injury in week 3.

The Timpview offense led by quarterback Trevor Brown is averaging 42 points per game while the defense led by hard-hitting safety and Notre Dame commit Chris Badger is giving up just 14 points a game.

With winning state championships comes the pressure to repeat. Head coach Louis Wong, a member of BYU's 1984 national championship team has been impressed with the way this year's team has handled expectations.

"It's amazing how our team responds to all the pressure that's on them," said Wong "I tell our coaches and players the pressure is on everyone else."

Standing in the way of Timpview's 4th straight title is another Utah County team making their first championship appearance since 1985.

When the season started, few people outside of the Red Devil locker room had this team reaching the final but now they find themselves one win away from a state title. The last and only state championship the Red Devils ever won was in 1985 when quarterback Scott Mitchell led them to victory before going on to the U. and then the NFL. Now as Head Coach, Mitchell isn't content with just getting this team back in the title game for the first time in 24 years.

"We're not done," Mitchell said after their semifinal win over Dixie. "It's not about getting there, we expect to play and win."

The Red Devils know that hardly anyone is giving them a chance on Friday. They go into this game with a chip on their shoulder hoping to show the entire state that they belong in this championship game. They have the talent to get the job done. Sophomore quarterback Steve Bate doesn't play like a sophomore and is getting better every week. Running back Alema Key will present a tough challenge for the Thunderbirds defense. And speaking of defense, the Red Devils give up just 12 points per game.
