Mayor Ralph Becker recently announced that The Leonardo, Utah's science-tech-art center, will open on April 15, 2011. The mayor addressed an audience of approximately 150 major donors and dignitaries in a pre-recorded video at a VIP event held by The Leonardo.

The Leonardo also announced that Nobel Prize winner Dr. Mario Capecchi will serve as senior advisor to the organization. In that capacity, Dr. Capecchi will provide expert counsel on content and programming planned for the facility.

The Leonardo is part of the Downtown Rising vision and will add a unique component to Library Square. When it opens, it will draw thousands to interesting exhibits—just like it did earlier this year for Body Worlds.

By the way, when the opening date arrives, April 15, 2011, it will also be Leonardo da Vinci's 557th birthday.
