SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah has been named as a host institution for the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds, the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee announced Thursday. The games will be held March 19 through 22nd in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. It will mark the second time that Utah has hosted the preliminary rounds. In 2001, the Utes defeated Fairfield and Iowa in the Huntsman Center in opening round play to advance to their first Sweet Sixteen.

"We are excited to bring the women's NCAA Tournament back to Utah," Utah Director of Athletics Chris Hill said. "This is a great opportunity for us to host top-notch talent from around the country. It is an honor to be selected and a tribute to the hard work of the staff at the University of Utah and the city of Salt Lake."

"The NCAA Women's Basketball Championship returning to the University of Utah is a great opportunity," Utah head coach Elaine Elliott said. "We can showcase this great game and bring Salt Lake City on board with the best the sport has to offer."

Cities chosen to host first and second round games in 2011 include Albuquerque, New Mexico; Auburn, Alabama; Charlottesville, Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; College Park, Maryland; Columbus, Ohio; Durham, North Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; Spokane, Washington; Shreveport, Louisiana; Stanford, California; Storrs, Connecticut; University Park, Pennsylvania; Waco, Texas; and Wichita, Kansas.
