JUST ONE LOOK By Harlan Coben
Wow! This book was a wild ride. I have not read a book that kept me up past my bedtime because I just couldn’t put it down in a long time, but this one does just that from the very first page.
Just One Look opens with a lawyer meeting a convicted killer who is set for execution. The hit man asked to see the lawyer even though the lawyer has nothing to do with his case. After sitting there for a few minutes, the hit man admits he killed the lawyer’s sister years before, a death the lawyer had always believed was accidental.
From there the book takes you through such suspenseful twists and turns, and for over a hundred pages you’re dying to know how that lawyer and hit man tie into the main characters.
This is the second Coben novel I’ve read. I read No Second Chance a year ago and was lukewarm on that one. I enjoyed Just One Look much more. Some readers feel the book lacks originality with the stereotypical Mafia characters and the too tidy cleaning up in the final pages, but I didn’t feel that way. I thought the characters really worked, and the tying up has a heckuva twist in the end.
