Television viewers voted Friday to evict a British woman who allegedly led racist bullying against a Bollywood actress on a British reality show, casting a shadow over Anglo-India relations.
The viewers chose to evict Jade Goody rather than Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, who was the target of the torment in the Celebrity Big Brother program, where participants live in a fishbowl environment shut off from the outside world.
"Jade, you will be leaving the house shortly," the program presenter informed her on Channel 4 following the vote.
Goody had been the hot favourite to be evicted as Indian government officials called on their British counterparts to step into the row and British lawmakers lined up to attack the show.
Goody, who had tears in her eyes, will then be informed of the row that sparked tens of thousands of formal complaints from viewers.
