May we offer a word of advice today - don't equivocate when it comes to flu shots. Take the time to get vaccinated.

The spread of swine flu throughout the human family has already been declared a pandemic. And while not as virulent as once thought, it is causing plenty of discomfort, disruptive illness and occasionally death. A significant uptick in swine flu cases is expected in coming months.

Of similar concern, and perhaps even more deadly will be the seasonal flu that is predicted to spread as fall transitions to winter. Vaccines have been prepared to cover three new influenza viruses that are expected to show up in North America this year.

Regular hand washing, coughing into your elbow, using tissues when sneezing and staying home when sick are all ways to help prevent the spread of influenza. But getting a flu shot is a proven way to keep most people from coming down with the miserable illness.

When it comes to the various strains of flu we're encountering, there is no place for panic or excessive worry. There is, though, a need for taking steps to minimize the impact of influenza. One of the best things people can do, in KSL's view, is get vaccinated.
