A look at how NFL players will local ties did during the opening weekend of the 2009 season.

  • TE Daniel Coats (Northridge HS, BYU) started for the Cincinnati Bengals and caught 1 pass for 16 yards in a 12-7 loss to the Denver Broncos
  • DE Jonathan Fanene (Utah) played for the Cincinnati Bengals and recorded two tackles, one for a loss, and a sack in a 12-7 loss to the Denver Broncos
  • CB Sean Smith (Utah) started for the Miami Dolphins and recorded two pass deflections and two tackles in a 19-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons

  1. FB Fahu Tahi (Granger HS, BYU) started for the Minnesota Vikings and carried the ball once for two yards in a 34-20 win over the Cleveland Browns
  2. WR Austin Collie (BYU) made his NFL debut with the Indianapolis Colts and caught two passes for 15 yards in a 14-12 win over Jacksonville
  3. CB Brice McCain (Utah) made his NFL debut with the Houston Texans and recorded two tackles in a 24-7 loss to the NY Jets
  4. DE Brett Keisel (BYU, Snow) started for the Pittsburgh Steelers and recorded 7 tackles in a 13-10 win over the Tennessee Titans DL Chris Hoke (BYU) recorded two tackles for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 13-10 win over the Tennessee Titans 3. OL Chris Kemoeatu (Utah) started at left guard for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 13-10 win over the Tennessee Titans
    1. DT Haloti Ngata (Highland HS) started for the Baltimore Ravens and recorded a tackle in a 38-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs
    2. WR Kevin Curtis (Bingham HS, Snow, Utah State) started for the Philadelphia Eagles and caught two passes for 26 yards in a 38-10 win over the Carolina Panthers
    3. WR Steve Smith (Utah) started for the Carolina Panthers and caught three passes for 21 yards and rushed once for 4 yards in a 38-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
    4. OT Jordan Gross (Utah) started for the Carolina Panthers in a 38-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles

  3. FS Eric Weddle (Utah) started for the San Diego Chargers and made six tackles, 1 pass deflection, and a vicious hit on a Raiders receiver in a come-from-behind win over Oakland 24-20
  4. WR Todd Watkins (BYU) played special teams for the Oakland Raiders and made a special teams tackle in a loss to the San Diego Chargers 24-20
  5. DE John Denney (BYU) played for the Buffalo Bills and had 3 tackles in a loss to the New England Patriots 25-24
  6. LB Brady Poppinga (BYU) played for the Green Bay Packers and had a tackle in a win over the Chicago Bears, 21-15
