NEW YORK, Jan 9, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- In another twist in a dynamic career, actor Tony Danza has taken on the role of Max Bialystock on Broadway in "The Producers."

Danza took his first trip to Bialystock's "Little Old Lady Land" on Dec. 19 and is starring opposite Roger Bart, who created the role of Carmen Ghia when "The Producers" debuted on Broadway in 2001. Bart currently plays Leo Bloom. The plays run with Danza continues through March 11.

The New York Post reported that by casting Danza, the show's producers are hoping to sell more tickets, and Danza himself is willing to personally promote the show.

Danza, 55, told the Post about how he used to hawk tickets to "A View from the Bridge," which he also did on Broadway.

"I'd say to people, 'Hey, what are ya gonna see?' There'd be a band there, and I'd sing, I'd tap-dance and I'd just suggest to them that they buy a ticket to my show," he said. "I'm gonna do it again."
