DAVIS COUNTY -- Some parents are concerned about a speech President Obama is set to deliver to students nationwide on Tuesday morning. Several school districts in Utah are even sending warning letters to parents and making alternate plans.

The Davis School District is sending out a warning letter to parents, who can have their child participate in an alternative activity if they so desire. Nebo District Board is talking about offering an organized alternative. And the Alpine District is leaving the decision up to schools and teachers.

One parent told the Deseret News he plans to take his children on a picnic and read the Constitution instead, to "learn something useful."

A couple in the Uintah School District has sent out an e-mail urging parents to call their children's schools and to be present to remove their children if Obama's talk becomes too liberal and offensive.

Other parents support the upcoming broadcast. They say if Obama were republican parents wouldn't be concerned. Parents who talked to KSL Newsradio at West High School Thursday morning say they are not concerned at all.

The U.S. Department of Education website provides information about the upcoming speech.

Davis District's planning comes after some parents and the conservative Utah Eagle Forum complained about the video called "I Pledge!" shown Friday at Eagle Bay Elementary School. Some claim it supported a political "leftist agenda."
