Boston attorney is giving a little something readable back to his community this holiday: a moving work of Jewish historical fiction.

Glenn Frank recently published his first novel, "Abe Gilman's Ending," described as a historically accurate account of two Jewish men living in post-WWII Mattapan.

Each man is struggling to improve his present lifestyle by exploring the ways of the past.

Frank, a 49-year-old New York native, moved to Plymouth in the 1980s. He works as a lawyer for the Super 88 supermarket chain.

Raised a Jew, he wants to preserve the vitality of his culture.

"I was particularly interested in exploring the Jews' fight for their country in World War II," he said.

His novel illustrates parallel accounts of European immigrants.

Abe Gilman is an elderly man living in a nursing home. He has lost his wife and his home and is desperate to regain some semblance of his former life.

Elie is a young man trying to uncover information about his past, mainly the whereabouts of his father, who remained in Germany throughout the Holocaust.

"The stories come together in an unusual way," he said. "It's a very simple story in the end and very inspirational," Frank said, adding he "always had this plot in mind." He said childhood trips to his great-grandmother at a New York nursing home inspired his character.
