Today is the apex of what each year is becoming a longer holiday season.
Christmas decorations began going up in stores more than two months ago, while some radio stations have been playing Christmas carols and other songs of the season almost as long.
And now Christmas day is actually here.
With gifts opened and families gathered together, it seems appropriate to get past the weeks of commercial and secular pre-Christmas hype to actually focus for a few minutes on the most significant meaning of this day.
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (Luke 2:11-14)
Though "peace" is elusive and many local, national and international events reflect anything but "good will," the message delivered some 2,000 years ago continues to offer hope that one day we'll all be able to get along.
May each of us do what we can individually to hasten that day.
From all of us at KSL, Merry Christmas!
