PROVO, Utah (AP)-- Brigham Young's Jonathan Tavernari came off the bench and scored a career high 17 points to help lead BYU to a 102-40 win over Western Oregon Friday night.
Western Oregon (3-6), a Division II team, led 11-10 with 13:40 to play in the first half. Jacob Mitchell scored six of the Wolves' first 11 points and finished the game with 12, all in the first half.
But BYU (7-4) took a 13-11 lead on a 3-pointer by Lee Cummard and never trailed again. Relying heavily on bench players, BYU finished the half outscoring Western Oregon 41-12.
In the second half BYU had runs of 25-0 and 10-0, leading by as many as 68 points at 99-31 with 3:57 remaining in the game.
BYU shot 57 percent, including 61 percent from beyond the 3-point line (11-for-18). The Cougars held Western Oregon to 30 percent shooting, 12 percent from 3-point range.
The Cougars had six players score in double figures including Cummard with 14 and Jimmy Balderson with 13. Trent Plaisted had a game high eight rebounds in 19 minutes of play to lead BYU to a 43-25 advantage on the boards. BYU also took advantage of 29 Western Oregon turnovers to score 40 points.
The win increased BYU's home winning streak to 20 games.
