LOS ANGELES, Dec 20, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The father of murder victim Ron Goldman filed suit against O.J. Simpson in Los Angeles, alleging a $1 million book advance was illegally structured.
The New York Times said Wednesday the suit filed by Fred Goldman states a recent book and television deal was set up by Simpson to keep Goldman from receiving funds legally due him from a 1997 civil judgment he won against Simpson for the death of his son in 1994.
The book and television show, which have both been canceled, explored how Simpson hypothetically could have killed his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
Simpson was acquitted of the two murders in a 1995 trial; however, he lost the civil suit that accused him of the wrongful deaths. Fred Goldman won a $19 million portion of a $33.5 million award.
The Times said the new lawsuit accuses Simpson of being paid for the book and TV deal through a "shell" corporation called "Lorraine Brooke," taken from his children's middle names, "the purpose of which was to enable Simpson to avoid paying creditors."
Goldman's attorney said the suit would be amended to add additional defendants, including the book's publisher, HarperCollins.
