I finally got a hold of the boxscore for Brazil's tourney win over Cape Verde, and it was another good shooting day for Jonathan Tavernari.
JT played a modest 20:31, and was 4/6 from the field, including 2/4 from three-point range. He added four assists and a rebound, with two turnovers and a single personal foul.
The through four international tournament games over the last week, Tavernari is now shooting 70% from inside the arc, and 56% from three-point distance, while averaging 13.8 points per game. He has started all four games.

While prepping for the MWC Football Media Days next week, I took note of the players the different schools are bringing to Las Vegas. BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall will be accompanied by TE Dennis Pitta and S Andrew Rich. That's noteworthy, since both players came to BYU as walk-ons. Rich, in particular, has made a significant impression in a very short period of time--going from someone who was not even in last season's media guide to a starter and team representative at Media Days.

Also notable: of the nine teams, only one team (TCU) is sending a quarterback (Andy Dalton) to Las Vegas. Just because it's mildly interesting to see which players ostensibly make better spokesmen, here's the breakdown, by position:

Only one conference team opted not to send one offensive and one defensive player. Wyoming is shipping two defensive linemen to Las Vegas; perhaps a not-so-veiled message that the Cowboys' offense doesn't deserve representation, at least not yet (Wyoming ended last season ranked 119th nationally--dead last--in scoring offense).

In doing some preliminary head counts ahead of BYU camp, I noted that sturdy RB Jerry Bruner had kind of disappeared since last season, and I had failed to notice it. As it turns out, Bruner actually left school during the 2008 Fall semester, and is now enrolled at Washington State.
