This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Jeff Peterson's company is what you could call a home-grown business. It started out small but has been successful enough that it is well known in both Salt Lake and Summit counties. At one time, it was even known as the highest volume builder in Summit County and the Park City area.

In 1992, shortly after they were married, Jeff and Tricia Peterson started their own business, doing small construction jobs. Jeff had a background in high-end finish work and he would procure and complete the jobs while Tricia kept the books. Their work was of such quality that the company grew and later evolved into its present form as Utah Home Building Company.

Headquartered in Murray, Utah Home Building Company is a general contracting firm specializing in custom homes, although it has also constructed many large commercial buildings and restaurants. It includes both a trucking and earthwork division. The earthwork and trucking divisions work for many other Utah contracting firms and encompass all kinds of general excavation work for residential and commercial buildings.

Most recently, Jeff says the company has been involved in the development of two large subdivisions in Midway. One is a primary residence subdivision and the other is a planned unit project on the Homestead Golf Course called The Links at the Homestead. The Links is a collection of 57 luxury "cottages," adjacent to the Homestead that sits on the golf course. Homes come fully equipped with a variety of luxury features, and buyers can choose from five different floor plans.

Like many other contractors, Jeff says Utah Home Building Company has felt the effects of the tough economy. He feels strongly that the company's long-standing reputation, extensive follow through and superior warranty policies on all its properties will help it weather the economic storm as the housing market continues to right itself.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
