PROVO, Utah, Dec 8, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A young Utah woman says her parents kidnapped her to prevent her marriage, falsely telling her they were taking her shopping.

Julianna Myers testified Wednesday at a preliminary hearing for Julia and Lemuel Redd, the Provo Daily Herald reported.

Judge James Taylor found that there is reason to proceed to trial in the case. He ordered the Redds, who own a farm in Monticello, to stay away from their daughter and warned them they will be jailed if they disobey.

Myers, a senior at Brigham Young University, said that her parents took her to a hotel in Grand Junction, Colo., in August. She said they combined physical force with efforts to convince her that her fiance did not love her.

She said she did not try to get help at the hotel or during stops at gas stations because she was afraid.

Myers' fiance reported her missing when she did not appear for a pre-wedding dinner Aug. 4. The couple were married five days later than they planned.
