Dec. 2--Lindsay Lohan's bad week has now become a family affair.
In an interview Friday with E! Entertainment Television's Ryan Seacrest, Lohan's mother, Dina, confirmed that her celebrity daughter has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
"She [Lindsay] is 20 years old," Dina Lohan said. "I'm not going to tell her to stay home. ... That's a ridiculous thing to do."
But Dina Lohan and Leslie Sloane, Lindsay's New York-based publicist, confirmed the actress, who is from Merrick and who turns 21 in July, has attended "several" recent meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.
During the taping, Ali, Lohan's younger sister, also described the difficulty of being the sibling of a celebrity.
Booked by Seacrest to talk about Ali's new holiday album, the Lohans were asked about Lindsay's most recent scandal, as reported Friday by the New York Post.
According to that article, Lohan, who had been drinking, yelled at a former assistant at the GQ Men of the Year dinner Thursday night in California. Lohan allegedly lashed out at the former aide, who was attending the event with actress Jessica Biel ("The Illusionist"), threatening to leave if the assistant was allowed to stay.
Sloane refused to comment on the particulars of the story, but expressed exasperation over the media's continued obsession with her client's daily life.
Even Ali, 12, said she has felt the pressure from the tabloid reports on her sister.
"It's very tough," she admitted, "especially in school, because kids will constantly come up to me, asking if certain rumors are true."
The media inferno was sparked earlier this week, when Lindsay Lohan was seen partying with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton in Los Angeles.
Sloane ripped the media for reporting on an error-filled letter Lindsay wrote following the death of director Robert Altman, who Lohan worked with on the summer film "A Prairie Home Companion."
On the phone Friday, Sloane called for a truce: "Yes, [Lindsay's] attending A.A. meetings, but it's going to be a slow process and she feels this is a very positive thing. She asks the media to back off on the negative things they have to say."
