NEW YORK, Nov 29, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The Broadway show "Wicked" has set a one-week record for ticket sales, with eager patrons lining up to see the untold story of the Witches of Oz.
"Wicked" sold $1.7 million worth of tickets for the week ending Nov. 27, the New York Post reported. "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" sold $1.57 million during the same week, followed by "The Lion King" ($1.4 million), "Mary Poppins" ($1.2 million) and "Jersey Boys" ($1.2 million).
"Wicked" is on its fourth set of witches since opening three years ago, the newspaper said.
Long-running hits still doing strong business include "Chicago" and "Mama Mia," producer David Stone told the paper.
Broadway continues to get pricier. Premium tickets for "Wicked" go for $250 each instead of the usual $110.
